Some of the best MTB trails in the Dolomites!

Prefer exploring on two wheels? From leisurely family excursions along flat, wide paths to punchier climbs over roots and rocks, there’s something for every rider around the Family Resort Rainer.
Families should try the easy cycle path from Sexten to Sillian in East Tyrol. It’s doable even for little legs, and you can simply hop on the train back to Innichen.

Trail tips for your Dolomite MTB day

Whether you’re a professional rider, casual cyclist, or a family with kids in tow, the Sexten area offers endless Dolomite MTB options. We have compiled a few suggestions for you here.

Ride to the Fondovalle/Talschlusshütte mountain hut – for families

Difficulty: easy

Elevation gain: 200 metres

This family bike ride starts right outside the Family Resort Rainer. First, cycle to the valley station of the Mt Elmo/Helm lift. At the large car park, turn towards Waldheim and continue to the Werk Haideck fortress. A tarmac road begins at the Prati di Croda Rossa/Rotwandwiesen lift valley station. Follow it into Val Fiscalina/Fischleintal to the Dolomitenhof and on to the Fondovalle/Talschlusshütte hut. The return journey follows the same route.

Family cycle path from Innichen to Lienz

Difficulty: easy

Elevation gain: 500 metres (downhill)

A leisurely, well-signposted family route from Innichen to Lienz (44km), crossing the border into East Tyrol. With a net 500-metre descent, it’s an ideal ride with children – and the return is easy by train.

Fast and sleek:

If you’re an enthusiastic road cyclist, the Sexten Dolomites offer you spectacular passes, flat cycle paths, striking rock formations, and rolling vineyards. Riders of all abilities will find favourite routes near Sexten. Classics near the Family Resort Rainer include the Passo Stalle/Staller Sattel and the Passo Monte Croce di Comelico/Kreuzbergpass. You can also explore the cycle path to Cortina d’Ampezzo, the Drau Cycle Path, and the Val Pusteria/Pustertal cycle path.

Stoneman Dolomiti

Have you heard of the Stoneman Dolomiti? It’s a real adventure for bike lovers. From late May to early October, participants explore the Dolomites by mountain bike, road bike and on foot, together with Roland Stauder. It’s not about the stopwatch; it’s about the experience of nature. As an official Stoneman partner, the Family Resort Rainer will be happy to provide details and tips.
